About Zakat
Nisab Threshold
Zakat is obligatory when your net savings exceed the Nisab — equivalent to 85g of gold or 595g of silver — and have been held for a full lunar year (hawl).
Zakat Rate
The Zakat rate is 2.5% of your total zakatable wealth.
Who Receives Zakat?
Zakat is distributed to the eight categories mentioned in Surah At-Tawbah (9:60): the poor, the needy, Zakat administrators, new Muslims, freeing captives, those in debt, in the cause of Allah, and the stranded traveller.
