A Sunnah of Deep Devotion
I'tikaf is the act of confining oneself to the masjid for worship, dhikr, and Quranic recitation — especially in the last ten nights of Ramadan, which contain Laylatul Qadr, a night Allah describes as better than a thousand months.
The Prophet ﷺ observed I'tikaf every Ramadan, and in the year he passed away he observed twenty days (Bukhari). It is a profound opportunity to completely disconnect from worldly distractions and intensify one's connection with Allah.
مَنْ قَامَ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ
“Whoever stands in prayer on Laylatul Qadr with faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” — Sahih Al-Bukhari
